My goodbye to the Marine Corps (Part One)

Don't worry it isn't done yet. I promise to make the ending as beautiful as I can

Everyone had come to see him again. There was mummers of assurance in the crowd sitting down on black lawn chairs.
The days was one that could be spoken of forever. The wind was only the lightest of breezes the carried his voice gently through the air. It was the same air that had followed him home thousands of miles back home. Sweetness filled the air from surrounding the wistful grass. The chipping of birds only added to the beauty of nature around the seen. I sat quietly in the back. Sun beat down heavily upon my face burning but refreshing. I couldn't picture a more perfect June day. I could see everyone as clear as as the blades of grass below me.
I tried to distract my mind from being nervous. I hadn't seen my friend in five years. A small bit of sweat mixed into the clutter of emotions that rushed my heart, each beat echoing to my fingertips. I held a heavy coin that i focused my mind on. The reflection of "Semper Fidelus" twinkled through the cracks of my fingers.
Everyone stood. The world around us all turned to silence. The birds seemed to move into a land of non-existence. It was indescribable. I didn't stand at first. All of a sudden it was as if the strength in my body left. I closed my eyes and clenched on the coin he had given me. Heart racing, blood pooling in my fist as a tear trickled down my cheek. How was I supposed to even say "hello old friend" if there was nothing to say? Knees weak my legs managed to join the crowds strength. I didn't turn around just closed my eyes and listened. Air seemed to only get harder to come by as each breath became shorter and slower as I listened.
Six pairs of footsteps in unison came from behind me. My black suit felt like the weight of the world as the got closer. Upon opening them as the tracks followed next to me what I saw only brought made it worse. Unbearable. Six men, three side by side of my friend marched down the silent row of chairs. The people that were once there seemed to disappear in the eery silence that surrounded me. Each man wore the uniform he wore. Black coats and blue trousers some with scarlet strips that followed down the seems. To me they didn't even have faces. Blank and empty but pain that echoed deep from the bottoms of each of their souls. Grasping for dear life on the bars that held him. The shades of green from the grass below seemed to darken as the carried him down the aisle.
